DOUGLAS ANDERSON has been painting and drawing in New York City for forty years. During that time he has had 7 solo exhibitions at Blue Mountain Gallery as well as being included in numerous group shows including the 177 Annual at the National Academy of Design where he won the Benjamin Altman Prize in Painting. Anderson also worked as a Scenic Artist painting scenery for movies, television, and theater for 25 years. He graduated from Queens College with an MFA in painting in 1992
The great American Abstract Painter Barnett Newman said that we must speak about painting because painting cannot be spoken about. To me, this means that we talk around painting. We talk about approaches, techniques and mediums hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive beast. In may work, I paint as freely as I can within my self-imposed limitations. This open-ended approach both sustains my sense of discovery and allows the viewer to bring their own imaginative perspective to the images.
